‘Walpa Gorge
artist statement and inspiration
In this painting titled Walpa Gorge, the mass of circular forms that gently lean on one another symbolise the conglomerate of rocks that make up the Walpa Gorge in the Kata Tjuta area.
In the centre of the gorge is a chasm carved out by the rain and wind, now a refuge for the native flora and fauna. The gestural strokes of paint that move throughout the composition create a force and rhythm throughout the painting that represents the energy lying beneath the rock forms.
The fiery reds and deep browns intertwined throughout the painting embed the view within the heat and dryness of the desert, connecting them to the earth and energy of the Kata Tjuta area.
This stunning original artwork on canvas is from the Lara’s latest body of work created this year. The work captures the life force that bubbles and bursts invisibly all around us, and burns just as brightly in our body and minds even as we sit still; especially as we sit still. Celebrating our creative energy Lara’s paintings are a reminder that renewal is a constant available to all of us. Her signature organic motifs are conjured into shape with rope and other natural materials and rendered in swirls of ink up to 40 layers deep.
“I create landscapes of life force. tapping into vibrations and responding to the moment."
