artist statement and inspiration

"My Swell Mini’s are designed to be installed in multiples; however, each work is visually developed, strong and striking and will create an impact as a standalone work.

The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement.

Swell Mini I, II and III feature organic circular fluid forms, delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world. They are inspired by our beautiful oceans, harbours, memories, meditation, music, culture and the essence of life.

This stunning original artwork on canvas is from the Lara’s ‘Vim Vitae’ Series created in 2019. This current body of work captures the life force that bubbles and bursts invisibly all around us, and burns just as brightly in our body and minds even as we sit still; especially as we sit still. Celebrating our creative energy Lara’s paintings are a reminder that renewal is a constant available to all of us. Her signature organic motifs are conjured into shape with rope and other natural materials and rendered in swirls of ink up to 40 layers deep.
