artist statement and inspiration

Koi fish with a difference was my inspiration for this luminescent oil on canvas – my desire was to create a piece packed with energy and movement which is truly characteristic of koi fish, yet calming and peaceful to gaze at and get lost in.

The fishes are three-dimensional, created with thick palette knife strokes in oil paint - making them stand out against the heavily textured background of waves and light.

This painting took close to three years to create, waiting for each layer days to dry and for the vision to fully emerge.
