artist statement and inspiration
'Leila – The Awakening'
Unleashing my inner goddess, this painting expresses my inner sensual and sexy self; making me wonder what I wanted from life.
Tapping into this wilder side, I used my brushstrokes freely to represent sensuality and confidence – an often forbidden subject especially in the Asian culture. Just like she is sat on her bed, rousing from her sleep, Leila is starting to discover her inner self – her wants, her dreams, her desires, her needs, her beauty, her confidence.
She is starting to question if her life has to be what she was brought up to believe.
The original painting was sold the moment she was released.
“I don’t need permission from anyone anymore. I believe in living life to the fullest, and that means trying every single thing you want to try.”
framing Inspiration
‘A complimentary frame does significantly more for a piece of art than just mounting it, it brings out the true colour and impression of the piece to fill the entire room adding elegance and a personal touch of style’
– Alexandra, Founder of Curate International Pte Ltd
‘Leila’- Recommended Framing Style
Together with Mishell we believe framing is an integral part of the full artistic appreciation of the piece, making it an extension of the artwork itself. Together as a team we spend hours designing each individual framing style to truly complement the piece of art, allowing it to work in any interior.
During the creative process we hand select each and every individual material and finish to create a truly unique artistically inspired style using only the highest quality of archival quality materials to preserve your work.
We would recommend you frame your limited edition lithograph archivally to protect the artwork using a 3” White Archival Museum Grade or Acid Free Mattboard, with a wide high gloss black or white sculpted frame to exaggerate ‘Leila’s’ femininity and curves.
